my tromple l'oeil technique ~

This was a plain white door. I added some decorative molding to it, and through painting techniques made the door appear to be expensive decorative wood. ~

~ I've done this technique on many of my jobs. Plain pillars converted to look like stone with grout lines. ~

~ These clients wanted to add tile throughout their bathroom. However, that is quite an expensive project. So, they opted to have me "paint" the tile on their walls. This was very fun and we were all thrilled with the results. ~

~ Plain wall? Or covered in leather? The glazing technique that I used made the wall appear to be covered in leather with a decorative molding. All paint and imagination! ~

Trompe l'oeil - Part 2

Here are some more examples of my trompe l'oeil technique.

This client wanted an exposed brick wall to "appear". Using joint compound and painting techniques - I created the bricks.

She loved it so much, she asked me to do an entire wall elsewhere in her home.

Give me an archway, and I can create architecture around it.

Trompe l'oeil

Trompe l'oeil is french for "trick the eye". It is an art technique where an optical illusion is created. A two dimensional art work appears three dimensional.

These cabinets were real, in that the doors were real; they could actually be opened. But, the inside was completely flat. The client wanted it to appear that there was china and stemware inside of them.
